Nadim Mehanna and his MotorShow team took the 2026 GMC Hummer EV for a comprehensive drive in the UAE.
The GMC Hummer EV represents General Motors’ transition of the Hummer nameplate into the electric era, replacing the brand’s previous focus on conventional off-road utility with a fully battery-powered platform. The vehicle retains the large proportions and angular design associated with earlier Hummer models, while adopting updated lighting elements, a modern cabin layout, and a new range of EV-specific technologies.
The exterior design maintains the boxy stance and wide body that originally defined the Hummer identity. LED front and rear lighting, a high ground clearance, and removable roof panels are key elements of its design approach. Inside, the cabin combines durable materials with digital interfaces, including a large central touchscreen and a fully digital instrument cluster. The interior layout emphasizes space and practicality, with multiple storage options and a layout suitable for daily driving as well as outdoor use.
The 2026 Hummer EV is available in multiple powertrain configurations. Entry-level dual-motor models produce around 570 horsepower, while higher-output tri-motor versions deliver approximately 830 horsepower with 1,220 Nm of torque. Optional configurations expand this output further, with the most powerful setups featuring up to 1,000 hp and 1,627 Nm of torque, and a special Carbon Fiber Edition capable of around 1,160 horsepower with refined propulsion calibration.
These power levels allow the vehicle to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in approximately 2.8 to 3.5 seconds, depending on configuration and conditions. Typical battery packs for the 2026 model have usable capacities around 180–205 kWh and support fast charging, enabling the addition of significant range in short periods using high-output DC charging infrastructure. Real-world range estimates vary, with some versions rated for around 312–318 miles on a full charge under certain test conditions.
The EV’s chassis and control systems include features such as adjustable air suspension, four-wheel steering, and the “CrabWalk” mode, which allows the vehicle to move diagonally at low speeds. These systems are designed to support maneuverability and capability on both paved and uneven surfaces. The platform’s high weight, however, remains a factor that may influence efficiency and handling depending on usage.
Charging capabilities include compatibility with DC fast-charging, enabling significant range recovery in a short period when using supported high-output stations. Actual charging speeds can vary depending on infrastructure availability and battery conditions.
Driver-assistance features include GM’s Super Cruise system, which offers hands-free driving on compatible highways, along with standard safety and monitoring functions. Interior technology also covers connectivity features, multiple camera angles, and off-road data visualizations.
Production and availability have been gradually scaling, with the model offered primarily in North America. Pricing varies widely depending on configuration and optional equipment, placing the Hummer EV in a higher price segment within the electric pickup and SUV market.
