Mercedes-Benz Introduces Vision V and VAN.EA Platform, Signaling Shift Toward Electrified Luxury Vans

Mercedes-Benz has announced the introduction of its new Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA), a modular and scalable electric platform set to underpin its next generation of vans beginning in 2026. The architecture aims to support a wide range of vehicles—from entry-level family transport to high-end luxury models—focusing on both private and commercial applications.

As part of this shift, the company has presented the Vision V, a concept vehicle intended to showcase the upper range of its future VAN.EA-based portfolio. Designed with a focus on interior space, digital integration, and customization, the Vision V integrates features commonly associated with premium and executive transportation.

Design and Comfort Features
The Vision V includes a large side portal door, a retractable running board, and a switchable glass partition between the front cockpit and rear cabin. The rear cabin, referred to by Mercedes-Benz as the “Private Lounge,” features flexible seating arrangements, a center console with a retractable table, and storage options for small personal items. The seats are electrically adjustable and can recline to flat positions.

Interior materials include Nappa leather, burr wood, and aluminum detailing. Display cabinets and ambient lighting systems are integrated throughout the space. A fragrance diffuser and multimedia control system are housed within the central console.

Digital Systems and Infotainment
The vehicle features a retractable 65-inch 4K cinema screen, part of an immersive entertainment setup that includes 42 loudspeakers and seat-integrated audio exciters. This system is designed to support video playback, gaming, and ambient visual effects. Interactive lighting, projection, and surround navigation are part of what the company describes as a “360-degree digital experience.”

Window glass in the vehicle is electronically adjustable for opacity, allowing passengers to control light and privacy levels. The front of the vehicle includes a “Superscreen” digital dashboard system comprising three integrated displays for driver and passenger use.

Seven themed modes—entertainment, relax, gaming, work, shopping, discovery, and karaoke—are designed to allow users to personalize their experience during travel. These modes alter media, seating configurations, lighting, and visual themes depending on the selected setting.

Platform and Performance
VAN.EA is Mercedes-Benz’s first dedicated electric platform for vans. It is designed to accommodate various configurations, including both personal and commercial vehicles. The platform supports ground-level battery integration and is intended to improve efficiency, weight distribution, and space utilization compared to combustion-based designs.

Exterior Design and Lighting
The Vision V features a low-profile, aerodynamic body with a short front overhang and a smooth roofline. The exterior incorporates chrome and LED elements, including illuminated grille louvres and light strips, which also function as indicators and welcome signals. The vehicle rides on 24-inch wheels that include illuminated components.

The rear is equipped with a large window surrounded by three-dimensional LED louvres that serve as brake and tail lights. The front end incorporates a new interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz grille, with lighting elements arranged around the iconic brand logo.

Technical and Safety Metrics
Although still a concept, the Vision V is intended to reflect future developments in autonomous-ready interiors, digital interfaces, and user-centric design. The VAN.EA platform and its derivative models are expected to support advanced driver assistance systems and comply with evolving safety and connectivity standards in major global markets.
